Day Nineteen

Day 19 was a busy day. The counters were installed in the morning and finished before Noon. After lunch our contractor came to do a few things before the appliances arrived. Then in the mid-afternoon, the appliances were delivered. Although some things took a bit longer than expected, everything went well. On Monday, our contractor is coming back to finish a few details and the flooring company is coming back in the afternoon.

So it is basically done. We'll take a few final pictures after everything is finished on Monday. We put everything back in the kitchen...a little Friday night and most of it Saturday. So we are now completely in our new kitchen. By the end the project will have taken 20 working days and just about 5 weeks. It is so worth it!!

Some Other Pictures

Here is the corner cabinet with the "under the cabinet" light on.

End of Day Eighteen

Days 16-18 our contractor did detail work on the crown & base moldings. He also finished some electrical work, installed grates on the heating & a/c vents under the "peninsula," installed the gas line for the stove and did the plumbing for the sink. John & him decided that it was best to replace all the cast iron pipes from the Kitchen into the basement, so they worked together on that project. He also put the paneling back on the wall in the Family Room.

Over the weekend, between Days 17 & 18, we did a thorough cleaning of the Kitchen & Dining Room. Then we moved everything back into the Dining Room (table & items in corner cupboards). It sure is nice to have the Dining Room back!

Now we have 3 full days with nothing happening as we wait for the countertops to be ready. Then the last day of the project will involve the countertops, appliances & sink all being installed. It will be a busy day, but everything will be done and we can move everything into our new kitchen over the weekend.

Here are some latest pictures...

End of Day Fifteen

On Day 13 our contractor came and installed the under cabinet lighting and the "rope" lighting above the cabinets. He also finished the electrical by hooking up everything in the breaker box and installing the outlets and light switches.

Day 14 & 15 the flooring company came and installed the new floor.

Below are some pictures of the floor and our "attempt" to show you the rope lighting above the cabinets. (It is pretty cool and the pictures don't do it justice!)

The old floor is almost gone!

End of Day Twelve

On Day 12, the "sandman" came. We were amazed at how quickly they sanded, stained and put one coat of finish on the Dining Room floor. We are so pleased with how the floor turned out. They will come back and put a second coat of finish on tomorrow.

Below are two pictures of the floor and also some close up shots of the kitchen cabinet details.

Days Nine to Eleven

Days 9-11 were mostly detail work and there wasn't a whole lot of change to show on pictures. One day our contractor spent most of the morning looking for the parts to make our heating & a/c ducts come out properly under the new "peninsula." He did a very good job getting this right. Not only does it work nice, it will look good under the peninsula (when the grates are put on after the floor is installed) but he also improved the ductwork in the basement coming out of the funace and up to the kitchen.

The kitchen floor will be installed early next week, then our contractor will put the "kickplates" on at the base of the lower cabinets.

On Day 11 we had the counters measure and a template made for the counter tops. Hopefully they will come in soon as this will be one of the last steps before the sink & appliances can be installed.

Below are some pictures at the end of Day 11. (Only a few handles are missing on our cabinets/drawers...for some close-up shots of the detail work, see Day 12.)

Day Eight

Here are some pics at the end of Day 8. Some cabinet doors that were missing yesterday are now on and the two corner cabinets are now installed next to the basement door. Also notice the entrance into the Family Room is taking shape. It is starting to look like a Kitchen again!

Day Seven

The cabinets are going in!! Here are some pictures at the end of Day 7. (Notice the "peninsula" that will be between the Kitchen & the Dining Room. The cabinets are somewhat set up. It is on the left in the first picture and on the right in the last picture.)

End of Day Six

John finished the painting today. He put a coat of Kilz on the walls & ceiling and then painted everything. At first we were concerned that the color was too dark, but after all the walls were painted and it dried completely, we really like it. The paint color looks a little different in the pictures...it is more of a soft sage green. We are looking forward to seeing how things take shape next week as the cabinets are being installed.

End of Day Five

Days 4 & 5 consisted of mudding the drywall and then sanding. So by the end of day 5, everything was ready for painting. Here are some pictures of the walls ready for painting:
