Tel Gezer

Here are some more pics taking at Tel Gezer.

Working in the ash from an 8th century destruction of the city.

Trench that was dug looking for the city walls.
It is about 20 ft long & 6 ft deep...no walls found yet.

Defensive Wall of the city. One of the largest ever found in Israel.

An area where John worked. These stone walls are 2,800 years old.

Sunrise on Tel Gezer.
(The group arrives before sunrise each morning!)

Various Pics

Here are some various pics I thought you'd enjoy...

A friend from college created this and posted it on Facebook. Pretty cool!

John relaxing in a wheel barrow at the Tel.

John at pottery washing.
Pottery washing is in the afternoon and part of working at the Tel.

Fruit break on the Tel. (George Johnson is front left.)

George Johnson in front of the standing stones at Gezer.
George lives in Ashland and is in Jerusalem for a few weeks. John & George were able to connect so George came and stayed with our group two nights, working at the Tel on Friday, July 10th.

Galilee Trip

On the morning of Friday, July 3rd the group left to visit the Galilee region until Sunday evening.

Altar replica at Tel Dan

Remains of a first century fishing boat, which was found in the mud on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
It is about 24 ft long & similar to the boats used in the time of Jesus.

July 4th Party & Talent Show

On Thursday, July 2nd, the place where John and the group are staying had a special outside meal for the group. Afterwards, the group had a "talent show" and they elected John as the MC for the night. John couldn't take many pictures, but I got some that others took of him.

All set up for the party...love those huge palm trees!

The group getting their food...hotdogs & hamburgers!
